Carnival – How to Make an Artists’ Brush Costume

Dressing like an artists’ brush! A fun and stylish costume idea from Amylee!

This is the month of carnival and original costumes! We all have a sudden need to party! In stores or on the internet, we have the choice of: classic costume or funny costume, what do you think was my choice?

In the following post, I wanted to be fashion designer starting from a slightly wacky and simple theme. Why not use something common and that an artist uses in his creative process? Check out my costume “So arty”: an artist’s brush costume. Come on!

1. Material for the body of the brush costume:

2. Material for the top of the brush:

  • 1 sheet of felt, 11.8”x15.7” (orange, brown or golden)
  • Scissors
  • 1 black beanie
  • Bubble wrap
  • Wool needle and black wool yarn
  • Paper sheet and Graphite pencil
  • 1 Brown acrylic paint tube, 1 brush and a glass of water

3. Steps to make the hat:

  • Once cut, sew the two shapes together leaving the base open (like making a big sock). Turn inside out to hide the seam.
  • Take the template and cut 2 shapes from 2 sheets of felt.
  • Using a sheet of paper, create a template for the top of the hat.

4. The final touch for the hat:

  • A few pieces of bubble wrap may be useful for the padding of the tip, but could be empty if the tip holds alone.
  • The beanie is fixed under the base of the tip with needle and thread and worn on your head. For better comfort, we can roll the edges of the beanie.
  • TIP: to darken the tip of the hat you can soak in a little brown paint with water or apply paint with a brush .

5. The result:

And now, the artist’s brush costume is almost ready. You can add a small detail: the shoulder Wooden pallet with Screw-In Ring Eyelets and a satin ribbon strap.
What do you think about my next collection Fall/Winter 2017 ? We could see this fashion style walking on a catwalk!
