Liquitex® | PROFESSIONAL Effects

With Liquitex® PROFESSIONAL Effects, you change the properties and character of your acrylic paint. They change the structure and make your paint suitable for specific applications.

Liquitex® | PROFESSIONAL Pouring medium – gloss

This medium makes your acrylic paint suitable for pouring techniques. It reduces the viscosity and increases the flexibility of your paint and prevents unwanted crackling. Dries glossy and with a wet-look.

Ever heard of acrylic skins? These are loose sheets of dried acrylic paint.

You cut or tear them into all sorts of shapes and stick, staple or sew them onto your work.

You can also hang acrylic skins separately or roll them up to make a 3D work.

Want to give it a try?

Then pour your paint onto a smooth glass plate or a Peel-off palette from MIJELLO. After drying, carefully peel off your paint.

Using this medium makes it easy and your acrylic skins will be smooth and strong.

Liquitex® | PROFESSIONAL String gel

This viscous, honey-like medium can be used on its own or mixed with acrylic colours. It creates long 3D threads – strings – and structured effects that retain their shape. Dries glossy and with a wet-look.

It might sound crazy, but you can make jewellery with acrylic paint and String gel!

Here’s how to. Using your paint, apply strands to a smooth glass plate or a Peel-off palette from MIJELLO. After drying, gently peel off your paint. A variation on acrylic skins, indeed. Only then you don’t make skins, but strings!

You can braid, dangle, glue, sew and staple those strings into necklaces, braoches or whatever else you can think of. You can also apply your paint in a closed circle or oval. That way, you already have a necklace right away!

And yes, of course you can combine skins & strings. That way you can make the most beautiful jewellery!

..In this VIDEO you will see how to combine Liquitex®’s PROFESSIONAL Pouring medium and PROFESSIONAL String gel – infinite intermixability they call it…

Liquitex® | PROFESSIONAL Ceramic stucco

You can use this medium on its own or mixed with acrylic colours. It builds up a fine, flexible and cement-like structure and texture.

Do you want to approximate the matt effect of Italian frescoes? Then you can mix pigment through this Ceramic stucco. This way you can approach the effect of beautiful, weathered colours and old walls.

First soak the pigment in water overnight. When the pigment has filled up with water, you can mix it better with your medium.

This is also how fresco painters worked – putting to rot they called it! Only, of course, they did not use acrylic medium as a binder, but chalk.

And pigment? You can find that at GreatArt, too, of course. Take a look at our house brand, for example!

Liquitex® | PROFESSIONAL Glass beads

The tiny glass beads in this thick, gel-like medium give a reflective texture with high-gloss bubbly effects to your acrylic paint.

As you can imagine, this shimmering and reflective medium works great with metallic, fluorescent, interfering or iridescent colours. Whether you mix it with acrylic colours or use it as a ground for acrylic or oil paints.

It already works beautifully on a white ground, but the effect is absolutely fantastic on a black ground. A black ground works surprisingly differently from a white ground. As black absorbs more light, your colours stand out more.

Or try this combination. On a white ground apply a layer of black acrylic paint mixed with this medium. Then continue working on it in acrylic or oil paint. You will be amazed!

Liquitex® | PROFESSIONAL Glass medium

Liquitex® | PROFESSIONAL Crackle paste

You can use this medium by itself or mixed with acrylic paint to create a crackled but structurally stable surface full of cracks and fissures.

Regarding the cracking you get – i.e. how many cracks you get and how deep the cracks are – you can never plan exactly. It depends on a lot of factors and can turn out differently every time.

In general, the thicker your layer, the more effect you will get. A layer of 5-10 mm usually gives a good result.

Such a thicker layer does need more time to dry, but then you also get the most beautiful cracks and fissures!
