Fun With Single Line Drawing

Would you like to try a new technique? Do you know One Line Art ?

One Line Art For Beginners | Easy Tutorial

Are you looking to create a clean one-line drawing without ever lifting the pencil from the paper?

It’s possible to do it simply, efficiently and with hardly any equipment!

Drawing In A Flash

Light, thin, modern, fast, drawings composed of a single line, also called One Line Art or Single Line Drawing, are very fashionable on social networks.

The one line technique can be executed on paper, canvas or blank cardboard, on a plain background or combined with an abstract and coloured background for a result with more presence.

It’s easy and fun for young and old and the effect is always amazing. Moreover, once framed, this kind of work of art fits perfectly into modern interiors.

GREAT TO KNOW : Practising one line drawing is great fun, but it does take some practice a bit like calligraphy. Don’t hesitate to practice to make it easier, after all practice makes perfect!

Tutorial

1. Take a black marker (medium or broad tip) and a sheet of paper. You can find these tools at GreatArt store (Online or in London Shoreditch)

2. Draw the shape without lifting the tip to keep the line.

3. Start with simple shapes (hearts, fruits, symbols, vegetation)

4. Change the orientation of the line by making crossings. Avoid returning to the same line so as not to weigh down the composition.

GREAT TO KNOW: To perfect a specific shape with a single line (e.g. face, tree, animal, etc.), I recommend that you initally get used to the technique on a small sketchbook or draft sheets before starting on a large format.
