New Product Review – Posca Pencils

Posca Drawing Pencils

Do you want to create a beautiful artwork using vibrant colour? Wooden pencils are inexpensive and easy to use. The colour range is generally rich, with light and dark shades.

The traditional coloured pencil technique requires paper that is more or less grained or even smooth, depending on the desired effect.

The colouring is done by successive strokes generally close together and can be firmly pressed to the paper to create dark shades or the lighter you press, the lighter the effect. You can cross-hatch or superimpose the colours to create luminous shades. You can also blend or smudge to create some interesting effects.

Posca Coloured Pencils

Today, I’m sharing my favourite, easy to use tool. I love Posca Coloured Pencils, which glide nicely over the paper. I advise you to try them!

The Posca coloured pencil is a hybrid oil and wax based. It is suitable for a wide range of graphic techniques. It is perfect for sketching, colouring in numbers, illustrations, watercolours, to enhance gouache or marker creations.

True to the Posca spirit, these pencils are suitable for children, schoolchildren, beginners and professionals as well. They can be used on a wide range of surfaces: white or black paper, tracing paper, wood, metal, cardboard, leather, glass, plastic, light or dark canvas.

Posca pencils are compatible with water or solvent based paints.

These products are currently available at GreatArt Online or in the art supply shop in London Shoreditch..

My Artist’s Review

  • very bold, more so than FaberCastell Polychromos or Prismacolors.
  • very pleasant to use and good complement to markers, watercolour and gouache paints
  • can be used on black paper, dark shades come out well
  • Posca coloured pencils do not blend as you would expect, they combine more by layering, hatching, and contrasting
  • thin with liquid brush cleaner or turpentine to create transparencies and watercolour effects. Use non-absorbent paper.
  • The pencil wears out quickly and needs to be sharpened often if you need to work in a fine and precise manner.
  • Available in set or per pencil.

GOOD TO KNOW: The thinner on some papers is too absorbent and does not have time to dilute the pencil.
