This a brand new workshop for us in collaboration with the brilliant John Close- taking you into the galleries and in front of some of the most fantastic art London has to offer!

We will host a talk about the subjects and histories of the featured artists with a theme which links the work together and then direct a session of drawing, allowing you to work directly from the displays. The session is tutor led and designed to provide in depth information and exciting drawing opportunities.

Join artist and art history fan John Close for an afternoon of insights and drawing in the Joshua Reynolds and William Dobson temporary exhibitions at the fabulous Tate Britain.

Take a look at the birth of celebrity in this exciting workshop which compares two of Britain’s most impressive society artists, Joshua Reynolds and William Dobson. Working from paintings creates exciting and ingenious variations, and we will explore pencil and graphite techniques to deal with challenges such as portraiture, costume, texture and composition. Often, gallery sketchers will focus on one small part of a painting, and in this session we will discuss a technical approach to structuring an entire scene. Join us for an Adventure in Drawing!!
