Brightwell Art Club
Brightwell Art Club has been meeting weekly in the Village Hall of the picturesque village of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell in South Oxfordshire since 1994. An enthusiastic handful of artists founded the group and it has grown in strength and expertise ever since. They have a professional artist and art teacher, Mike MacGregor, who tutors each session; a visiting tutor to introduce a new discipline or to critique their work each term; an extensive library of books and magazines for members to use and a really light, bright environment in which to enjoy two hours of painting each week.
But Brightwell Art Club’s meetings are not just about developing individual art skills, they are also social occasions to share information and news and develop friendships. Sadly, it has had to limit members to 20 and has a waiting list!
Each year an Exhibition of around 100 pieces is held on the first Saturday of December in the Village Hall and this generates a really high level of interest. Members exhibit in various media including oils, watercolour, acrylics, gouache, pastels, ink, collage and drawing and most of the exhibits are for sale. Other local arts and craftspeople also have small stands at the edge of the exhibition which generates an even wider audience. These include one of the Art club members who has started a business creating jewellery from her artwork. So you can see, they are a talented bunch!
