TONUS is conceptually all about the strength of a single note and how the combination of those single notes create a sonic structure that is both challenging and soothing. TONUS is partially planned but still executed with a great freedom through deep listening and the extreme control over each instrument. Modulation Grid is a new series of pieces for trio by Dirk Serries. Hermetic sonic configurations that slowly shift and fluctuate in frequency and tonality. For this concert TONUS is Colin Webster on clarinet, Martina Verhoeven on concertina and Dirk Serries on soprano melodica performing Modulation Grid I.
Andrew Cheetham
Drummer Andrew Cheetham is one of the key figures on the incredibly vibrant improvised music scene in Manchester. Cheetham tours, and records regularly in groups with David Birchall, Colin Webster, Otto Willberg and Alan Wilkinson, as well as free rock groups Irma Vep, Yerba Mansa and Desmadrados Soldados de Ventura. For this performance Andrew will play a minimalist improvised solo set.
