Art Macabre return to RA Lates, this time with a bigger life drawing offer than ever before! We have teamed up with life drawing creative partners from East London Strippers Collective, Roy Butler (Figuration) and Francesca Cluney (artist model, Drawing Circus). We will offer three distinct life drawing activities and workshops for you to take part in – as an artist and as a life model!
Inspired by the themes of the body, life and death, classical nudes, eroticism and sensuality and birth/maternity, Art Macabre present the following activities as part of the wider RA Late packed programme:
Performing Eroticism: Life Drawing with East London Strippers Collective
Life Drawing Experience
The women of East London Strippers Collective are disturbing stereotypes, updating the relationship between artist and muse, and aiming to change societal attitudes towards strip-club dancers by co-working to produce their own self-run life drawing events. Capture their powerful physicality and expressive forms at this unique drawing experience, juxtaposing the idealised beauty and eroticism of Renaissance nudes alongside a radical and 21st century performance style that rejects stigma and shame, celebrating the raw sensuality of their chosen profession. Part of Art Macabre’s ‘Nude Revelations’, a series of explorations of contemporary life drawing experiences curated by Nikki Shaill across this event.
Expressive Bodies: Become a Life Drawing Model with Art Macabre
Life Modelling Workshop
Professional models/tutors Francesca Cluney and Figuration’s Roy Joseph Butler demonstrate Renaissance and Classical life drawing poses. Think an aerobics class, but for life modelling. From breathing and stretching techniques to learning how to convey emotion and character through the body. You’ll create your own repertoire of poses, develop your strength and model for a group of sketching artists. Part of Art Macabre’s ‘Nude Revelations’, a series of contemporary life drawing experiences curated by Nikki Shaill across this event.
Modern Madonna: Sketch Mother and Child with Art Macabre
Life Drawing Experience
Sketch an intimate scene of modern maternity, observing from life our mother and child model duo. On the eve of Mothering Sunday, Art Macabre present a contemporary vision of the classical Madonna and Child tableau vivant. Except this scene will probably not be silent nor completely still, as you are challenged to capture in your creations the reality of nursing and draw upon the dynamic relationship between a mother and her infant. Part of Art Macabre’s ‘Nude Revelations’, a series of contemporary life drawing experiences curated by Nikki Shaill across this event.
