Come and join Safira for a practical introduction to Islamic geometry. Using a ruler and compass, construct a pattern and create a painting to take home.

This Islamic geometry workshop will explore a pattern from Islamic traditions – in particular an 8-pointed star pattern from Lahore Fort, Pakistan.
During the session we will be using a compass and ruler to create a geometric pattern template and we will go through the process of transferring and repeating the template on to watercolour paper. The pattern we will create in class is pictured.
The second part of the session will be an opportunity to explore painting techniques so you can create your own piece of work to take home.
Equipment and materials will be provided during the class.
No prior experience is required.
Suitable for ages 16+

Class expectations:
The class is suitable for someone who has never taken a geometry class before or for someone who would like to refresh their skills. You will be taught the basics and will be able to practice using the compass before working on the pattern.
If you have tried geometry before, this class is a great refresher and a chance to try learn a new pattern.
