Vegan Watercolour Paint: Aquarelle de Provence

Would you like to paint with sustainable, recycled, recyclable, biodegradable and zero waste Paints?

Do you know Aquarelle de Provence?

I recently tested this new range of watercolour made in France (near Fréjus in France) and I wanted to share with you, my favourite vegan paint.

My Favourite Vegan Paint

Pleasant to use and beautifully sparkling, Aquarelle de Provence reminds me of the Paints of the region where I like to go on holiday.

Let’s get back to Aquarelle de Provence.

The Paints react well to water and paper. They activate quickly from the first drop. I recommend using paper that is thick enough (about 300gsm) to avoid unsightly curling of the sheets. Mine was a little too thin during my demonstration.

I usually paint with fairly bright colours but I was able to appreciate the whiter colours offered in these little boxes. The pans are well filled and the unusual colours such as iridescent parma, orange bronze, iridescent vegetable green, iridescent blue, and iridescent black violet are a treat for the eyes and the brush!

Even though it is very cute, I fear that the small powder pink cardboard box, will not hold up to the too frequent use of opening and closing it repeatedly. The cardboard seems a bit thin to me. We’ll see with time…

GOOD TO KNOW: You can find a great range of watercolour paints in GreatArt store in Shoreditch (London) or on GreatArt.co.uk online shop.

Handmade Vegan Watercolour Paint

L’Aquarelle de Provence was founded by Valérie Schifano. The paints do not contain any animal products. They will therefore delight vegan artists.

A desire to work with respect for nature, a recipe composed of entirely organic plant products of superior quality with French extracted Mica, Aquarelle de Provence is part of an artisanal, eco-responsible and environmentally friendly approach.

Find all the iridescent vegetable paints with mica at the Fine Arts Giant, a brand that does not hesitate to put forward French and European manufacturers, craftsmen, suppliers and producers so that artists can have the choice of using recycled and recyclable Fine Arts materials.

There is also a sprig of lavender in each box. What a nice surprise!

Colours range printed on the growing paper

Colour Palette on Growing Paper

The little surprise in this watercolour box is “my colour palette”. The handmade paper with relief is made of seeds to plant. Yes, you read that right. The paper is 100% compostable and will give birth to beautiful flowers. A good gesture for nature and pollination!

The ‘growing’ paper is 100% handmade, recycled paper to which flower seeds have been added during the manufacturing process. When the paper is planted in soil or damp cotton, flowers grow for the pleasure of young and old artists!

To make the flowers grow, moisten the paper overnight. The next day you can put the paper under a thin layer of potting soil or in cotton wool. Keep the soil moist and the first shoots will appear within 1 or 2 weeks.

In order to ensure effective germination of the seeds, it is recommended to use the growing paper within 2 years of production.

Studio Demonstration and Inspirations

To test these paints, which are representative of Provence, I composed several creations based on lavender and olive trees. Emblematic plants dear to my heart.
