Twitter Art 2019

What is the Twitter Art Exhibit?

Twitter Art Exhibit (TAE) is the brainchild of Scandinavian artist David Sandum, who turned to art to help combat depression. This social media project invites artists of all levels to donate original postcard sized artwork to be exhibited and sold for charity. The first event took place in Norway in 2010 to raise funds for Sandum’s local library, receiving 260 cards from 24 countries. Today it has has gained a global following, and in 2019 has attracted donations from over 1000 artists from 65 countries worldwide.

To date Twitter Art Exhibit has has raised over £60,000 for charities in the USA, Australia, Scandinavia and the UK. This year the project comes to Scotland for the first time, to support Art in Healthcare.

Who are Art in Healthcare?

Art in Healthcare works closely with healthcare providers to provide a carefully tailored programme of art workshops. These are led by professional artists and aided by volunteers, for people with a range of health and care needs.

Art in Healthcare workshops are bringing individuals together to engage in art and social activities. The workshops also enable them to learn new skills, make new friends, and increase self-esteem and confidence.

The funds raised by TAE19 will help Art in Healthcare to develop the art workshop programme to benefit to more people with health and care needs. You can learn more about Art in Healthcare in our magazine feature.

How can I support this project?

Over 1,000 submitted artworks will be available to purchase during the exhibition 11-13th may and then subsequently online at artinheathcare.org.uk. You can purchase an original postcard artwork for just £30 or four artworks for £100, making these originals affordable for all.  Visit the exhibition in Edinburgh to buy your favourite pieces, or buy them online from 13th May. Remember, each piece is a one off original so anything bought at the exhibition itself won’t be available to purchase in the online gallery. If you’d like to browse the postcards available you can do so here.

Art in Healthcare will also be holding an online raffle of VIP works, which includes cards donated by well known crime writer Ian Rankin, and Twitter Art Founder David Sandum himself. Tickets for the online raffle can be purchased for £2 each here and you can purchase as many as you like! All proceeds will go to Art in Healthcare.
