Pioneering Hackney-based arts group #Artskickers toured across six East End boroughs on Saturday 21 April, complete with its own orchestra showcasing some of London’s best young musical talents. The whirlwind tour, named the #Artskickers Urban Symphony, brought together some of London’s finest emerging young musicians, grime artists, singers and dancers to collaborate with acclaimed professional musician, Renell Shaw, and Street Orchestra Live, conducted by renowned Dutch musician, Gijs Kramers. They were accompanied by comedian Kat Boyce, who roused the crowds at Barking Town Centre, Westfield Stratford City, Mile End Ecology Pavilion, Dalston Square, Dalston Eastern Curve Garden, Walthamstow Town Centre and Wood Green.
Speaking to a packed audience at Dalston Curve Garden, #Artskickers founder and arts activist Angie Gough said: “Our young creatives have given us an incredible day – uplifting and being uplifted. We’re delighted so many people came out to hear their voices and celebrate their talent. At a time when young lives are being lost across East London, it’s vital for our young people to have outlets for creative expression that allow them to gain confidence and feel valued.
