Enter for an Art & Framing Industry Award 2018
The Jorge Aguilar-Agon Student Artist Award is an international award, organised by the Fine Art Committee of the Fine Art Trade Guild UK and granted annually to a student artist in the second or third year of their studies on a higher education art course.
Why enter the Student Artist Award?
This is a special student artist award as it will provide the winner with an extraordinary chance to receive advice and support from art industry professionals, boosting their artistic career.
The winner will be announced at the prestigious Art and Framing Industry Awards Dinner that will take place at the Crowne Plaza in Stratford-upon-Avon on the 12th of May 2018. They will receive the Fine Art Trade Guild hand-made glass trophy, awarded by Jorge Aguilar-Agon.
They will also receive:
- Two complimentary tickets to the Awards to dine with industry greats!
- The winning artwork will be framed by Ian Kenny Framing and displayed at the inauguration of the Guild Artist Exhibition 2018 in Stratford-upon-Avon, which will travel to London to be held at the Guild Gallery at a later stage.
The image of the winning artwork will be printed to the Fine Art Trade Guild standards by the Towngate Publications as a Limited Edition of 20 ﬁne art prints.
- The winner and their artwork will be featured in the award-winning Art + Framing Today
magazine and on the Guild’s blog and social media sites.
All entrants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for consideration:
• Entrants should be in their second or third year of a recognised higher education course in art, design or illustration.
• The emphasis of the competition is to ﬁnd a student who exhibits a talent and skill in traditional drawing, painting or working with mixed media. All artwork must be 2D (painting, mixed media or drawing) and must be suitable for print publication; part of the prize is a limited edition of 20 ﬁne art prints. Please note: Digital artwork, photography or sculpture will NOT be accepted.
Entrants to submit one or two pieces of artwork in digital format via email [email protected]ﬁneart.co.uk
(submissions must be high quality jpeg, preferred image size is 300 dpi and 1,000 pixels on the longest side), with a 500 word biography and optional supporting material in a word or pdf format.
The original artwork must be available to exhibit at the Art and Framing Convention in May 2018 and it is expected the winning student will attend the Awards event.
28 Feb 2018 – Closing date for applications (5pm)
April 2018 – Notiﬁcation to winning artist (embargoed until Awards event)
12 May 2018 (2pm to 11pm) – Inauguration of the Guild Artists Exhibition 2018 at Crowne Plaza in Stratford-upon-Avon culminating in the presentation of the Award
May/June 2018 (tbc) – Guild Artists Exhibition 2018 continues at the Guild Gallery in London

About Jorge Aguilar-Agon
In 2015 Jorge Aguilar- Agon was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award by the Fine Art Trade
Guild and entered into the Guild Hall of Fame. Born in Barcelona in 1936, after attaining a University degree, Jorge left Spain for Europe and mixed with the Bohemian circles of the Schwabinger Kunstkreis in Munich and Parisian Montmartre and St Germain des Pres. His ﬁrst exhibition was launched at The Medici Society in London and his reputation as an artist quickly grew into one of international recognition and repute. His distinctive style of painting reﬂects a personal record of his travels and to date he has had 8 highly successful world tours and over 182 individual exhibitions. He holds an extensive list of award-winning Fine Art reproductions to his credit and has received some of the highest ranking academic awards and distinctions to be bestowed within artistic circles. Working from studios in France, Spain and England, he speaks seven languages ﬂuently and is a regular contributor to Radio and Television art programmes. Founder member of the European Academy of Arts, his paintings are represented in exclusive private collections and museums all over the world and citations appear in several notable reference journals.
