enterprise bringing your creativity to life.
Through a series of workshops, masterclasses and interactive experiences, they give creative opportunities to residents and beyond and give local artists a platform to share their work.
They believe in the power of creativity to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and within the community. As a social enterprise they work with local partner organisations to deliver free classes to residents using their services, and want to ensure that all residents have a creative outlet and that the positive effects of the arts reach everyone.
Their September to December 2017 Events Programme welcomes new artists and makers, including photographer Charlie Kwai, mural artist Naomi Edmondson and London African Drumming, whilst also bringing back some of their classics; stargazing with the Lumen Collective and theatre-making with Russell Lucas. Covering the breadth and depth of Hackney’s artistic scene, they aim to cater for all interests and appeal to a broad range of residents. Through their four categories of events; Create, Perform, Discover and Play, they aim to offer something for everyone and represent all types of creative activity.
Hackney Arts was founded in 2016 by local arts producer and social entrepreneur Sophie Thompson. With over ten years of experience in arts and entertainment, and a personal passion for arts, community and social change, Sophie set off on a mission to use the thriving
arts scene of Hackney to encourage creative exploration and to build a community where everyone is welcome.
Hackney Arts was created following an award from UnLtd and is now supported by the Allia Serious Impact Programme. Find out more at www.hackneyarts.com
