The Original Art Register

The Original Art Register is an online resource to help artists and photographers protect their work against copyright theft. As a trusted register, it also helps publishers, collectors and licensors find art for their projects.

Too often, artists faced people who copy their work saying they didn’t know that an image belonged to someone else. OAR helps reduce the risk of thieves using that claim as a defence, as your work has been registered in the public domain.

Whether or not a copyright thief is actually aware of the true ownership of the image, they are then treated as though they ought to have known. This is often all it takes to put would-be copyright thieves off using your images.
The register also has the added benefit of letting buyers know that they are indeed buying an original art work or photo, or a genuine licensed reproduction.

The Original Art Register is open to all artists and photographers, who do not have to be members of the Guild. The cost is £3 or less per image uploaded, with very modest annual fees. Registrations come with an OAR number and registrants can download a free certificate with thumbnail image. The register is also open to the art buying public, publishers, collectors and licensors, helping promote your work.

About the Fine Art Trade Guild

Artists, photographers and their publishers have looked to the Fine Art Trade Guild for help and also guidance.

The Guild is a not-for-profit organisation. It develops and maintains standards for the art, fine art print and framing trades. Its training and qualifications programmes are designed by the trade, for the trade, and aims to improve standards and professionalism among practitioners.

The Guild also publishes a number of books, study guides, and a magazine for industry professionals. The Guild Gallery is available for its member artists to hire and is based at its modern SW London offices.
