Introducing our New Partner!
SPACE is a leading visual arts organization providing creative workspace, advocacy, support and promoting innovation.
Established by artists in 1968, SPACE runs 18 artist studio buildings across 7 London boroughs, providing affordable creative workspace plus support programmes. SPACE also delivers Learning projects for schools, young people and communities neighbouring SPACE studio sites, to promote engagement with creativity and the arts.
SPACE supports 700 artists with studios and a further 700 a year with professional development. Additionally, SPACE engages 22,000 people a year though public programmes.
This takes place at 2 SPACE venues:
SPACE HQ, 129 – 131 Mare Street, Hackney, E8 3RH
The White Building, Hackney Wick, E9 5EN.
London Creative Network (LCN)
SPACE, through the London Creative Network (LCN) programme, assists around 60 visual artists a year to realise a project using innovative technologies or new-to-the-practice processes. Participating artists receive 6 months free support, including one-to-one mentoring, monthly crit groups, workshops with industry specialists and talks. Our next Call for Applications will be released on 7 Nov for the January – June 2017 period.
Residencies
SPACE residencies are currently hosted at The White Building, and support artists who work at the intersection of art, technology and ecology. Their residencies nurture and support the participating artists by offering:
- space,
- time,
- resources to produce new work,
- a public platform to share and develop their ideas.
Bursaries
SPACE Bursaries are designed to support artists at critical junctures in their careers, supporting practices in development during early to mid-career years. Taking the form of free studio provision and / or a stipend, the bursaries aim to relieve an artist from financial pressure for a period during which they can focus on their practice and progress within their chosen field.
Art + Tech
SPACE Art Technology’s (Art + Tech) mission is to support discursive and innovative thought, by providing a test ground and critical exchange platform for artists and thinkers, whose work engages with technology. Art + Tech does this through a programme of events, workshops, monthly OpenPROCESS discussion events as part of the annual residency and new models of intervention.
Exhibitions
SPACE continues its commitment to supporting artist development by working closely with four artists, or collectives, each year to commission new works. The programme champions emerging practice and experimental artist-led initiatives that encourage exchange between the gallery and our Mare Street neighbourhood.
Learning
SPACE runs programmes with schools, young people and communities near SPACE studios, providing opportunities for diverse audiences to meet artists and technologists, learn new skills and develop their own creativity.
