Visiting Weald of Kent Art Group
The club is open to anyone who enjoys drawing and painting but also those who are interested and curious about art in general. In the summer they enjoy an outdoor painting programme visiting different venues in the surrounding area. In the winter a varied programme of demonstrations and workshops is organized and very popular with members as it gives them a chance to meet artists and discuss some of their secrets.
Soft pasels
On this occasion, Vikki Fusse was visiting Highbury Hall to demonstrate a landscape drawing using soft pastels. Not only was she able to share techniques in the use of colours and shading, but also her experiances travelling with Inuits on a dogsled, as she worked from a sketch she had initially created during her travels. Hearing stories from her trip was an added bonus to the technical instruction she provided and she was very happy to answer questions from the group as they watched.
The group still has members that have been present since it’s formation in 1962, and the committee had displayed the scrap books that have been kept up to date with 50 years worth of newspaper articles about the groups activities. A regular feature is the summer exhibition that takes place in August at the Town Hall, with an opportunity for members to sell work.
The support and help volunteered by members is essential to the running of the club and maintaining the varied programme they have. They are always looking for new members and volunteers to take part, and welcome all painting and drawing skill levels. To learn more about the group, please visit www.wealdofkentartgroup.co.uk
