The Brentwood Art Society

One of the three lucky winners from GreatArt’s 2010 Art Club Prize Draw!

Brentwood Art Society were one of three lucky winners from GreatArt’s 2010 Art Society prize draw. We were invited to present their prize at one of their tutored art sessions held on Monday evenings. We were welcomed by the Society’s Chairperson, Anna Hughes, and introduced to the attending members and tutor Julie Gowers. Julie taught the session and demonstrated how the society likes to expand their creativity and explore new ideas for their artwork.

Membership of Brentwood Art Society is by selective entry and they welcome all types of media from painting and drawing to printmaking and collage. The aim of the tutored sessions, and also of the society, is to continue to find new themes and ideas for each artist to apply to their own style and to present them with new challenges.
The society itself was formed in 1958 following a complaint that there was a lack of culture in the town. Since then they have gone on to arrange workshops, demonstrations, painting holidays and gallery trips as well as their regular Monday sessions. There is also an additional painting session on Thursdays where members can work from a model without instruction. In addition to the creative sessions they also hold an annual exhibition at Brentwood Library for members to showcase their work and have the opportunity to win prizes.
