The stretcher bars have a wide, 7cm profile as standard and are made of a combination of 2 wooden structures that are secured so that they counterbalance each other. This structure provides excellent dimensional stability and protection again warping.

The pine wood selected for the frames is the highest quality and comes from sustainably managed forests in Europe. Depending on the canvas dimensions they are also reinforced with a spacer bar, cross bar or double cross structure.

The Canvas
This 100% linen canvas is woven with ‘Long Strand’ flax fibres that are proven to be more regular, consistent and robust when compared to shorter strand fibres of a lesser quality. The very best strands are selected from Europe in order to fully obtain all the intrinsic qualities of flax : stability, strength, and durability.

The raw canvas is given a first coat of natural size by hand in order to treat and seal the fibres and isolate any subsequent layers from the surface. Three coats of primer are then applied to ensure perfect colour rendition and adhesion to the surface. After this preparation, the canvas is a heavy weight of 435gsm, is completely acid free and offers excellent age resistance.
