Golden Acrylics

High quality paints to meet high standards…

Golden Artists Colors Inc. began in June of 1980 in a 900 square foot renovated barn. They are dedicated to making high quality acrylic colours to meet the high standards of professional artists. GreatArt have been very fortunate to add the following products to its range of art materials!

Golden
Heavy Body Acrylic
These were the first products introduced by Golden Artists Colors Inc. They were originally sold to artists in Manhattan in gallon containers until their popularity grew and they began to supply the paints in smaller containers and tubes. The paints are noted for their exceptionally smooth, buttery, rich consistency, and have the ability to ‘stand up’ and retain brush strokes and knife marks. The heavy body colours are all thixotropic in nature, meaning that when they are stirred or brushed they will feel much thinner but the viscosity will increase once the paint returns to a state of rest.

When dry they have excellent flexibility which greatly diminishes the possibility of cracking. They offer excellent permanency and lightfastness and contain no fillers, extenders or dyes, only an assortment of pure pigments in 100% acrylic emulsion.

Fluid Acrylic
Golden started creating fluid colours on a custom basis for artists who requested a low viscosity but high pigment saturated paint. Some artists wanted to be able to pour and drip the paint, or create stains using the acrylic as an alternative to watercolour, and also use the paint in spray applications. Adding water to heavy body acrylics did not suffice as the paint was not strong enough. The Golden Fluid Acrylics are able to produce all these effects and maintain optimal tinting strength and coverage without the filmed appearance of diluted colour.

Eventually the product became popular enough for Golden to be able to introduce it as a standard line product. They have the same pigment loading and colour strength of the heavy body range but with a consistency of heavy cream which makes it incredibly versatile for a range of techniques.
Fluid Acrylic Colours can be mixed with most Golden Mediums, gels and other paint lines. You may find due to their low viscosity that they are easier to blend with gels then colours from the heavy body acrylic range. When used with a brush they will load more evenly and allow for longer and more uniform brush strokes.
The colour range includes interference and iridescent colours.

Open Acrylic
The most recent addition to the Golden brand, the Open Acrylics have a slow drying formulation with a slightly softer viscosity than the heavy body paints. Their increased drying time allows you to practise more traditional techniques that were previously only possible with oil paints. They are ideal during long painting sessions or for using outdoors. Thin applications of the paint will tack up, which allows for additional layers to be applied and blended. What’s more, if you cover your palette or use a sealed container you can come back to the same paints for weeks at a time, reducing the amount of waste and preserving colour mixes to be used again.

The full range of Golden Open Acrylic is available with a range of mediums for ultimate control of the paints appearance and drying time.
